Increasing coal production from its national coal producer Coal India Limited (CIL). 1 billion tons is expected from Coal India which accounts for over 80 per cent of the domestic production.
  • #2
Encouraging greater private and foreign participation. The Ministry of Coal quickly reauctioned 204 allotments cancelled by the Supreme Court. Private mining to be expanded further as a result of the Coal Mines Special Provision Bill passed in March.
  • #3
Easing environmental restrictions, permiting processes, and land acquisition. The Ministry of Coal is tracking projects in various stages and it may intervene if there are significant delays.
  • #4
Focusing attention on coal transportation expansion. In 2014, 50 million tons of coal were stranded at mines because of rail limitations and shortage of railcars. The govt. is concentrating on 3 key rail projects that could facilitate an additional 100 million MT of coal production.
