Syrian Crisis: Educating the children of Syria

    Syrian children and youth are in dire need of educational assistance.
  • 5.4 million
    of these Syrian children and youth are inside Syria (of whom 2.1 million are out of school)
  • 1.4 million
    of these Syrian refugee children and youth in the five host countries - Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt. 48% per cent of whom are out of school.

    major crisis response plans are in operation - Syria Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) & Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan (3RP).

    saw the launch of the No Lost Generation (NLG) Initiative, as an integral part of the HRP and 3RP. It is is premised on supporting national leadership of ministries of education in the region and partnerships around their national plans in scaling up education access and improving learning as well as building capacities and strengthening the policy environment.

    size of the HRP education envelop that was funded. 3RP envelop did slightly better at 46%. Both programs therefore were extremely underfunded by the end of 2015.

    needed in 2016/17 so these children can have access to, and learn in, safe, inclusive and quality formal and non-formal certified learning opportunities.
