Watts Working Better - An Energy Efficiency initiative of the Goulburn Broken Greenhouse Alliance

    Victoria regional councils - Benalla, Campaspe, Mansfield, Mitchell, Moira, Murrindindi, Greater Shepparton, Strathbogie and Wangaratta - have come together under the banner of "The Goulburn Broken Greenhouse Alliance Watts Working Better" to improve the efficiency of residential street lights. Indigo and Towong Shire Councils came on board recently.

    Cost of the "Watts Working Better" project. The councils have collectively contributed one third of this cost. The Goulburn Broken Greenhouse Alliance (GBGA) was successful in securing additional project funding via the Department of Industry from the Australian Government. The project received $2.96 million in funding from the Australian Government.

    Estimated savings across nine councils over the next 20 years once the project is fully implemented.
  • 106,700 tonnes
    reduction in CO2 emissions over 20 years. That is equivalent to taking 24,000 cars off the road.

    street lights will be upgraded to energy efficient alternatives across 11 council area over the next 20 years.

    and more of the old lights are dismantled and recycled through a partnership with ConnectGV which provides valuable training opportunities for the organisation.
