  • 49.3 million
tree saplings were planted in a single day - on 11 Jul 2016 - in the state of Uttar Pradesh. This is certainly going to set a world record, although the feat has yet to be certified by Guinness World Records.
  • 800,000
+ volunteers from the state worked for 24 hours planting 80 different species of trees along roads, railways, and on public land. The saplings were raised on local nurseries.
  • 12%
of land needs to be brought under forest cover as part of the commitment India made at the Paris Climate Conference in December 2015. This effort in Uttar Pradesh is in line with that commitment.
  • $6 billion
amount budgeted by India to reforest its land and bring its total forest cover to 235 million acres by 2030, or about 29 percent of the country's territory. The agreement was signed on Earth Day 2016.
