Madhya Pradesh signs UDAY MoU, 15th State to join scheme

    The Government of India, the State of Madhya Pradesh and the DISCOMs of Madhya Pradesh (MP Poorva Kshetra Vidhyut Vitran Nigam Ltd., MP Paschim Kshetra Vidhyut Vitran Nigam Ltd. and MP Madhya Kshetra Vidhyut Vitran Nigam Ltd.) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) under the Scheme UDAY – “Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana” today for operational and financial turnaround of the DISCOMs.
  • Rs. 34,739 crore
    outstanding debt of the state's DISCOMs as on 30 September 2015.
  • Rs. 26,055 crore
    amount of debt (75%) owed by all DISCOMs now passed over to the state.
  • Rs. 8,684 crore
    or 25% of state's DISCOM debt will now be repaid with fresh state guaranteed DISCOM bonds to be issued at coupon rates around 3% less than the average existing interest rate.
  • Rs. 2,215 crore
    Savings for the state DISCOMs in annual interest cost through reduction of debt and through reduced interest rates on the balance debt.
  • Rs. 8,523 crore
    The estimated additional revenues till FY 19 to accrue through reduction in AT&C losses and transmission losses.
  • Rs. 1,560 crore
    The gain expected till FY 19 through Demand Side interventions such as usage of energy- efficient LED bulbs, fans & air-conditioners and efficient industrial equipment.
  • Rs. 4,225 crore
    gain through coal reforms, such as availability of 100% washed coal.
  • Rs. 17,515 crore
    Estimated overall benefit.
  • 52,86,000
    households in 131 villages that are still without electricity will now have an expedited opportunity to be electrified through the scheme.
