Surat Municipal Corporation: Efficient Street Lighting upgrade program

    street lights under Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) will be retrofitted by efficient LED lamps by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) in the next 6 months.

    estimated reduction in electricity bills for SMC's once the project is completed according to SMC additional city engineer H Khatwani. The current annual spend is Rs. 16 crore.
  • Rs. 145 crore
    total cost of the project which will be borne entirely by EESL, since this project will be implemented using the ESCO model.
  • Rs. 8.5 crore
    will be paid to EESL by SMC each year. In keeping with the ESCO model, this is approximately the savings the SMC will derive through the switch over. EESL will maintain the lamps for a period of 7 years.
  • 9,800 tonnes
    approximate cut in carbon emissions every year.
