  • $244 million
Amount that mining companies and rest of the country's industry owe Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC).
  • $300 million
    Amount owed by domestic users.
  • $75 million
    Amount owed by farmers.
  • $24 million
ZETDC has been able to recover in first 6 months of 2017 by installing 'pre-paid' meters. The prepaid metering system deducts about 20 percent from prepayments by defaulting customers and is now ZETDC’s main debt collection strategy.
  • 800,000
Number of pre-paid meters that are planned to be installed by 2018. In addition some 140,000 smart meters will also be installed.
  • $120 million
Estimated cost savings in 2017 alone, and will increase even more in 2018 once all the planned meters are in place.
