  • 132 MW
planned installed capacity of the Merredin Solar Farm, located about 5 kilometres south south-west of Merredin, half way between Perth and Kalgoorlie in Western Australia's central Wheatbelt.
  • 281 GWh
of electricity will be generated per year.
  • 42,000
approximate number of households that can be powered by the farm each year.
  • ? tonnes
estimated reduction in CO2 emissions each year, once the farm is operational.
  • 460
hectares of leased rural land which is relatively flat and receives strong consistent solar irradiance, making it an ideal location. The site has been selected due to its proximity to the Merredin Terminal Substation with relatively minor works required to connect the solar farm to the South West Interconnector System.
  • 360,000
Number of Risen Energy 370W high performance monocrystalline PERC module panels that will be mounted on a single axis tracking system. 22 Inverter stations will convert the power from the solar panels to alternating current (AC) before entering an onsite substation.

Bulk earthworks to prepare the site for installation of the solar panels and substation equipment are under way. The substation installation is progressing with equipment foundations being poured, the installation of the control room and erection of the gantry. High voltage wires to connect the substation to Western Power’s Merredin Terminus have been strung and to be energised once the substation and farm are substantially complete.
  • Oct 2019
Monford Group plans to install the panels, torque tubes, trackers inverters and build the new substation. High voltage conductors to connect the substation to Western Power’s Merredin Terminus have been strung and will be energised once the substation and solar farm are substantially complete.

Pilecom installs the last of the 46,563 steel post foundations. The tracking system and solar panels are mounted on these piles.
  • Dec 2019
The project's civil and mechanical works are completed by the principal construction contractor, Monford Group. 354,452 PV panels and 4,249 torque tubes were installed, with approximately 60 km of cable trenching laid and 22 inverters placed onto their foundations. On-site labour peaked at 425 staff and the speed at which they completed the works was exceptional.
