    Coal based generation capacity shut down or converted across India in fiscal year 2018-19. In all 18 units in 7 plants were shut down. During the same period, 5,712 MW of new capacity has been added.

    ObraTPS Unit 8 retired from the state sector of Uttar Pradesh in Apr 2018.
  • 120 MW
    Bandel TPS Unit 3 & 4 (2 x 60 MW) retired from the state sector of West Bengal in Apr 2018.
  • 420 MW
    Ropar TPS Unit 1 & 2 (2 x 210 MW) retired from the state sector of Punjab in Jul 2018.
  • 440 MW
    Guru Nanak Dev TPS Unit 1, 2, 3 and 4 (4 x 110 MW) retired from the state sector of Punjab in Jul 2018.
  • Badarpur Thermal Power Station Unit 1, 2, 3 (95 MW each) and 4, 5 (210 MW each) retired on 15 Oct. With the shutting down of this plant, New Delhi becomes a coal free capital city.
