FoodBank's fight against hunger in Australia [2017]

  • 37 million kgs
    of surplus fresh food and groceries rescued and redistributed as meals in 2017. At least 32 million kilograms of these food and groceries are sourced through ‘food rescue’, highlighting the phenomenal volume of edible food that, without Foodbank, may otherwise be sent to landfill.

    meals prepared and distributed via charities and other organisations in 2017 (equates to roughly 183,000 meals a day!)

    charities and 1,750 schools involved and which provide food to people (and children) in need.

    donors companies around the country, ranging from multi-national corporations to small local operations that provide food and grocery donations.

    volunteers and 900+ employees engaged across Australia.

    people receive hunger relief from Foodbank agencies each month, a third of whom are children. Despite their best efforts, approximately 65,000 people are being turned away because demand for food relief is outstripping supply.
