Water stored in the reservoir is used for irrigation purposes and drinking water needs in Surat, Ankleshwar, Tapi, Navsari and Valsad districts of South Gujarat. The Ukai dam impounds the Tapi river and gets inflow from 22 gauge stations in the neighbouring Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
