The company announced it would retire the plant on 08 Oct 2017 with CEO Curt Morgan stating "The market's unprecedented low power price environment has profoundly impacted its operating revenue and no longer supports continued investment,". Around 200 jobs would be impacted.

The company announced it would retire the plant on 13 Oct 2017 with CEO Curt Morgan stating "The market's unprecedented low power price environment has profoundly impacted its operating revenue and no longer supports continued investment,". Around 200 jobs would be impacted. 450 jobs will be impacted.

Tennessee Valley Authority shut down all 3 units of its Thomas H Allen Power Plant located south of Memphis, Tennessee in Mar. The Allen plant that burned 7,200 tons of coal daily, was by far the largest single source of air pollution in Shelby County, with its 400-foot-tall stacks spewing more than 11,000 tons of sulfur dioxide, 2,600 tons of nitrogen oxides and the equivalent of 5.4 million tons of carbon dioxide annually.. ? jobs will be impacted.

Wisconsin Power and Light Co. and Alliant Energy. co-owners of the Edgewater Generating Station shut down Unit 4 on 28 Sep. The plant located in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Last year, the Sheboygan Power Plant burned almost 950,000 tons of Wyoming coal, which generated enough power for about 200,000 homes. This is the third coal plant that Alliant has closed since 2015.
