Quality of tap water in Dehradun not safe to drink

    Period during which a survey was conducted by Dehradun based Society of Pollution and Environmental Conservation Scientists (SPECS) to determine the quality of the tap water supplied in several localities of Dehradun district.

    of surveyed localities showed the presence of fecal coliform which is a major contributor in causing stomach diseases. According to Dr Brij Mohan Sharma from SPECS, The water contamination levels in these localities are alarming. The presence of fecal coliform indicates that people are consuming water which has the presence of waste from underground sewage. If the people continue to consume such poor quality water for a long time, it can result in severe illness as well.

    Number of localities where absorbed chlorine levels were found to below the prescribed norms, which can cause skin diseases.

    Localities including Rajpur, Johri village, Doon Vihar, Malsi, Vijaypur Road, DL Road, and Niranjanpur, have a high presence of hard water content which is responsible for causing problems like hair loss, skin dryness, among others.
