  • $3.3 million
Contribution to Guyana's economy from exports of fruits and vegetables during the period of Jan to Jun 2020, according to a report by the Central Bank of Guyana. These numbers have women’s work behind them. Aside from growing many of these crops, women are also generally behind the processing of these foods, producing items such as pepper sauces, jams, jellies, seasonings and dried fruits, and retailing them for export.
  • 30%
Fruit and vegetable production that is estimated to be either lost or wasted according to Guyana’s Ministry of Agriculture. The FAO is working closely with farmers across the country in highlighting best practices in the value chain to avoid food loss.
