Planned generation capacity of the Hamrawein coal plant which has now been put on hold. In February 2018 the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC), the government-owned utility, announced that a consortium of Shanghai Electric, Dong Fang and Hassan Allam Construction had won the tender for the project with a bid of US$4.4 billion which would deliver electricity at US$5.4 cents per kilowatt hour. The project has been shelved due to overcapacity and a preference for renewables.
